This combination of a NZ Maori Kotiate and an engraved stand would make an excellent trophy or 21st gift.

Kotiate were usually made from whale bone or a hardwood. This one is made from Tulip Wood, a sustainably harvested hardwood that is remarkably light weight.

As per traditional carving, the butt of the handle is carved with a Maori face symbol, embellished with paua shell eyes. As in this example, the traditional kotiate had a cord threaded through the butt end, which would be wrapped around the warrior's hand so it was not lost in battle.

This kotiate is approximately 31.8cm (12 1/2') long. The stand measures approximately 39.5 x 8.5 x 3.2cm (15 1/2' x 3 3/8' x 1 1/4'), minus the struts. 

The stand has a Koru design engraved into the top and the front. This still leaves plenty of room for engraving the recipient's name or the name of the trophy onto a gold plaque on the front of the stand.  The name can also be laser engraved into the wood, or paua engraved.

Please note that engraved items cannot be returned, apart from the unlikely event that the engraver got the engraving wrong.  Allow 3-4 days for engraving to be done.
